Grant funds add revenue to the Municipal budget

Nov 25 2020

Bowen Island Municipality regularly applies for and receives grant funding from senior levels of government and partner organizations. Some projects are funded entirely by grants, and some are matched in varying portions by Municipal funds.

In the past three years, BIM has been successful in receiving over $14 million in grants that toward funding important projects and initiatives. Most recently, we have received $10,000 in an Infrastructure Planning Grant for the Eagle Cliff Water System, and a remarkable $1,273,000 in a COVID Safe Restart for Local Government Grant, both from the provincial Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Housing. This funding will go a long way towards restart and recovery for Municipal services in our community, as we deal with increased operating costs and lower revenue due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Through this program, the Province is demonstrating the importance of all levels of government working together to achieve British Columbia’s goal of getting through this pandemic together.

Grant funds are reflected as revenue for the Municipal budget in the Five Year Financial Plan, lessening the load on property tax bills.
